5 Tips on How to Improve Newborn Safety

0

One of the most-stressful things about parenting is how to ensure the safety of your newborn. But, this is something that doesn’t have to make you feel anxious. If you do your utmost to take care of the newborn safety, you got nothing to worry about! In order to make your job easier, we’re now going to provide you with 5 useful tips on how to keep your infant safe.

1. Be Extremely Gentle

You need to handle your baby with care, meaning that no violent moves are allowed! This includes shaking, as well. It might seem logical, but injuries caused by shaking are so often that the doctors have given it the name the shaken baby syndrome. Infants are fragile, so even a mild shaking can result in brain damage or even death.

2. Prevent Falls

Another thing you need to ensure is that there’s no way baby would fall. Unfortunately, the falls happen rather often, but there is a good way to avoid them. You just need to keep the crib safe and stable. This means that in no circumstances should you leave it on a counter or the bed, while the baby is in it.

You also need to make sure the baby is never left alone when out of the crib. If you like letting your infant lie on the bed, make sure to keep an eye on the baby all the time! Some parents like keeping their babies in the specially-designed baby chairs. If you’re one of them, make sure that the baby is strapped properly. This way the chance that the baby would fall out is minimal.

3. Put the Baby on the Back to Sleep

A simple rule to remember – babies sleep on their back. Even if the baby is crying, it doesn’t mean that changing the position would change anything. In fact, it can only make the things worse. In order to keep your baby safe, you need to place it on the back.

This is something that every pediatrician will advise you to do. The reason is that numerous studies have shown that sleeping on the back can reduce the risk of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

4. Take All Potentially-Dangerous Things Away From the Baby

Small children have no notion of fear. Some will feel that they’re completely safe, which will encourage them to explore. What this means is that unless you move all the potentially-dangerous things away from your kid, the baby might get in contact with them.

This includes everything from medicines, vitamins, razors, dining utensils, and so on. The room where the baby is should contain nothing but the things that the baby needs!

5. Keep Your Baby Safe in the Car

Even if you’ve done your best to keep your home safe for your kid, it doesn’t mean that your job is done. Sometimes you will need to take your child somewhere (to the pediatrician, for example), for which you will have to use the car. Driving carefully is a must, but there are many things that you need to take care of in order to keep your baby safe in the car.

For example, you need to get a proper car seat. By proper, we mean a seat that has been federally approved. But, even if you get the best possible seat, it won’t matter much if you don’t install it the right way. So, make sure to properly read the instructions and/or consult the experts. Another thing to pay attention to is to never leave your kid in the car alone, especially if the baby is still very young
